What’s Up | 4/18/10

I haven’t written much about what’s been going on in my life for a bit now. I’ve been so busy the past few weeks, finishing up on various things here and there. I have one more hectic week to look forward to, then two chill weeks before finals season hits.

So what’s been up? Nothing much, except case competition, midterms, papers, more exams, ABA, and The Daily Cal. After finishing the case competition last week, I looked forward to a hell week. It seemed daunting at the time: math midterm, business paper, business module exam.

I decided to take them on one by one. When you break your problems down into manageable bits, things get a little easier. Throw in a Muse concert midweek, and I’m glad I got out okay. I should get the results next week.

I got to present the Best of Berkeley awards to three local businesses for The Daily Californian on Thursday. Sweet Heart Cafe for best boba, Caffe Strada for best coffee, and La Mediterrannee for best Mediterranean food. Full list of winners here. I grabbed Ici ice cream afterward because I was in the area. Never tasted better.

On Friday, Wesley came to visit Cal because he’s coming here next year (shout-out to Chris and the other future Golden Bears). I showed him around campus, took him to North side, where all the math and science buildings were located, and showed him my dorms.

That night, ABA had its last cabinet meeting. We did a fun scavenger hunt around campus, talked about our thoughts of the semester, and thanked our co-chairs, officers, and friends. I’m sad that such a wonderful ABA semester is ending. At the same time, I’m looking forward to another great one in the fall.

I swam for quite a bit on Saturday at Hearst Gym. It was quite a workout. I tried to swim some 1oo IMs, but I was dying. I need to get back in shape. Ate a huge brunch after and fell asleep for an hour and a half.

I spent the whole afternoon editing the yearbook pages for ABA. It’s nearing the end of semester, and I can’t believe how quick time flies when you’re having fun. I’m looking forward to a great yearbook.

I stopped by campus for Cal Day and caught the last song of The Cold War Kids’ set. They played in front of University Library, and “Something Is Not Right With Me” never sounded better.

I ate dinner with Christina, Jay, Jessica, and Kevin at La Mediterrannee on College Ave. First time eating Middle Eastern food, and I have to say that it wasn’t bad. Blog post and pics up soon.

Oh, yeah, and I had Ici ice cream again. Dulce de leche was heavenly.

Crashed Evelyn’s apartment for a surprise birthday party, got to hang out with some more friends. Happy twentieth, Evelyn, hope you have a good one! And I’m waiting for that secret hamburger recipe, Jimmy. After talking to some friends about housing for next semester, I realized that I still don’t have a place yet.

I’m not too worried about not finding a place, because there are plenty of places. I’m just a bit restless because I want to get this housing shenanigans done and over with. It doesn’t help that the landlady of the place we want hasn’t called me back yet. Fingers crossed for that phone call.

So here’s what next week’s looking like for me. I want to have all the yearbook files ready to go on Monday. I’ll drop them off at the printers and hopefully get that taken care of in a few days.

I’ll mostly be focusing on my history research paper, due Thursday. It’s an 8-10 page paper, and I really want to do well on it because it’s 30% of my grade and I want to ace the class, which is proving to be a lot harder than I had expected. So I’ll be in the library for a bit this week.

Okay, I’m pretty tired now, gonna call it a night. So that’s what’s been up in my life. Looking forward to the remaining weeks of my first year at Cal and a wonderful and relaxing summer.
