Wow. 2016 has been one crazy year. I won’t repeat what countless folks and media outlets have already covered, so I’ll take this opportunity to do a fun little exercise about the positives of this past year from the point-of-view of yours truly.

The hustle-and-bustle of every holiday season gets a bit overwhelming for me, so it’s always nice to take a step back and reaffirm that I’ve been doing the best I can in living life with the resources & opportunities that I have. It’s never a cakewalk and there are just as many valleys and there are peaks – but I’m loving every moment and continuing to grow. Read on for the details!

Major 2016 Accomplishments

• Completed major checkout re-design for both macys.com & bloomingdales.com
• Co-led a community (small) group at my church, Reality SF
• Finished reading the entire Bible
• Enrolled in and completed two coding classes (HTML & CSS, JavaScript)
• Helped family move to new house
• Lost 10 pounds through healthier eating (portion control, boba remains a work-in-progress)
• Stayed active with swimming, basketball, bouldering, yoga, hiking, and snowboarding

Hiking/Backpacking & the Outdoors in 2016

• The Lost Coast – 4 days and 34 miles hiking on a remote beach & surrounding trails
• Point Reyes National Seashore – hiked-in to a campground within walking distance of Alamere Falls
• Lake Aloha in Desolation Wilderness – 2 days backpacking in the Tahoe wilderness
• Muir Woods – fun jaunt off the beaten (wooden) path
• Mission Peak – Christmas Eve hike, the return after over a year
• Lake Tahoe (x7) – snowboarding, more snowboarding, and summer/fall trips

• I will blog at least once a month
• I will attend an out-of-state music festival

• I will pick up a new hobby or revive an out-of-practice hobby
• I will continue doing what I love (travel, music, hobbies, etc.)

Some Thoughts for 2017

• Know your worth – continue to pursue your passions, be kind to others, and don’t be too hard on yourself
• Family comes first – no matter what, through the highs and lows, be there for family
• Friends matter – independence is all-important but slightly more overrated than I’d thought
• Treat your body right – growing old doesn’t mean feeling old (at least not yet), stay active and foam roll
