The Gate of Hell

Per me si va ne la città dolente,
per me si va ne l’etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.
Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore:
fecemi la divina podestate,
la somma sapienza e ‘l primo amore.
Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’entrate

“Through me you go to the grief wracked city; Through me you go to everlasting pain; Through me you go a pass among lost souls. Justice inspired my exalted Creator: I am a creature of the Holiest Power, of Wisdom in the Highest and of Primal Love. Nothing till I was made was made, only eternal beings. And I endure eternally. Surrender as you enter, every hope you have.”

As you can tell, this week has not been a pretty one for me. While it’s not nearly as bad as standing in front of the gates of hell (or as artistically-worded), it’s definitely going to be painful.

The above excerpt is taken from Canto III of Dante’s Inferno, the first part of his Divine Comedy epic poem. That last line is just brutal. I  love how it’s worded.

I’ll be fine. It’s going to be hot (seriously, have you seen the severe weather reports?), but once I’m done with this week, I know it’ll be bliss.

Blue skies and a cool breeze ahead at randomtidbitsofthought.wordpress.com.
