Coachella 2019 Full Lineup + Glen’s Recommended Sets

Since 2010, I’ve posted annual Coachella lineups on my blog. Heading into my 8th Coachella, I had a lot of fun following the drama surrounding this year’s lineup – check it out below!

And for some extra fun, I present:

Lineups from the Past Nine Coachellas

Thoughts on the 2019 Lineup

The road to the final lineup was a much more exciting one compared to past lineups from recent years. The initial headliners (Kanye, Childish Gambino, and Justin Timberlake) were leaked early on and all but locked in. But then, JT hurt his vocal cords and needed to reschedule his tour, which resulted in the Coachella headliner spot cancellation. Finally, on the eve of the lineup drop, Kanye backed out of his headliner spot due to “artistic differences.”

In the ensuing hours, the Internet message boards blew up. Speculations flew left and right. By the afternoon, things fell into further disarray when Goldenvoice started to tease fans with announcements of individual undercard performers. And then finally, the lineup dropped and everything was made whole.

After the dust had settled, we have the 2019 Coachella lineup. It’s a pretty solid one, and apart from the headliner drama (Tame Impala replaced JT, and Ariana Grande replaced Kanye), the other slots were fairly straightforward and even exciting. A good mix of all kinds of genres. A pullback on EDM and surprisingly hip hop. A growing focus on world music with some pretty diverse bookings.

Personally, I was very impressed by Goldenvoice’s techno bookings this year. Techno has been breaking out in the European festivals the past couple years and it’s exciting to see the best of the best (many DJs/producers are female) being represented here.
