Road Trip, SF, + Food (Lots)

It’s late. Must blog.

Today, I went on a road trip back to Berkeley. Some of my friends from my church’s youth group decided to drive me back and check out the Bay Area.

This was perfect because I originally had no ride back. Being a pretty spontaneous event, the trip started smoothly. I was picked up around 10 am, and we were on our way up north within 30 minutes.

The road trip to NorCal was typical stuff. Lots of empty land along the 5, interspersed with “Congress created the Dust Bowl” signs and random patches of green (of grape vines, apples orchards, and the like).

We took a lunch break at an IHOP in the middle of nowhere. I ordered some Minion-Tots (don’t remember the exact name, but it had to do with Despicable Me), plus some good-ol’ butter pancakes. Delish.

After another 4 hours or so on the road, with epic 300 clips that had the audio connected to the car stereo and lots of music, we arrived at the outskirts of the Bay Area.

We crossed the Oakland Bay Bridge into SF. Our first stop, naturally, was Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. We walked around the place and browsed a lot of the shops.

There was the left-handers shop, the shop with tons of autographed music memorabilia, the knife shop, just to name of few of the more interesting ones.

We ate dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. I ordered their Shrimp Po’ Boy, which was a Louisiana-styled sandwich with popcorn shrimp wrapped in French bread. Amazing. The onion rings and Cajun shrimp weren’t bad, either.

Feeling very full and slightly disoriented from the impending food coma, we decided to do the logical thing and get more food.

Of course, this food had to be chocolate-y, so we drove to the famous Ghirardelli Square. Ginormous scoop of coffee ice cream in a waffle cone for the win.

Our stomachs bursting from the seams, we drove to the SF Bay Bridge. We spotted a lot of the nice houses along the way, but when we got to the actual bridge, we couldn’t really see much, since it was dark and foggy.

Oh well. We backtracked to Berkeley and chilled at my apartment. A little later today, I’m showing them around campus, and we’ll grab some good Berkeley food before they head back to SoCal.

It was a great day.
