What’s Up | 08/02/10

Wow, it’s August already? Crazy. Summer is a-flyin’.

Don’t have much time to write right now…I’m working on my paper for Media Studies. For this paper, the prompt was to chose any media text and make an analytical argument about how the text makes ideological claims about the world.

In other words, choose any TV show, music video, or film and write about it in depth, coming up with arguments along the way.

Since I had the urge last week to watch Pulp Fiction, I figured it would be the perfect topic for my paper. Kill two birds with one stone, right?

So I’ve watched the film again, and I have to say that the more I watch it, the better it gets. Tarantino’s genius really shines through – his innovative camera techniques, black humor, and obscure references and homages are a treasure trove, waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.

The paper is coming along. Definitely a lot harder than I’d imagined. I’m arguing that Pulp Fiction challenges the dominant ideology of race and gender, and while I have plenty of examples, I’ve had a tougher time expressing everything that I want to say.

I currently have two more examples to talk about in my paper, so I’ll be getting back  to that. I should have the essay, or excerpts, up after I finish, so keep a lookout for that.

Other than that, my weekend was again pretty fun, pretty chill. Finals are coming up in less than two weeks, and I’m on pretty good standing in both my classes. Hopefully I’ll keep it that way.
