What’s Up | 05/31/10

Where do I start? The past two weeks have been so chill for me. I’ve spent a good amount of the time at my house, with my parents and brother. There’s not much to do at home, and we’re still not done with remodeling the house, so things are definitely out of place.

But I’m used to it by now. I have definitely spent a lot of time on my laptop, just wasting time browsing YouTube, Facebook, blogs, something I couldn’t afford to do in the whirlwind of college life. So I’ve spent the past two weeks unwinding, remembering how to be lazy again, and getting twice the amount of sleep I’ve been getting at school (plus hour-long naps).

I’ve watched a ton of movies, all of them movies that I’ve read or heard good things about. Shutter Island, Shaun of the Dead, Reservoir Dogs, The Karate Kid, Taxi Driver, and Citizen Kane, to name a few. No bad movies here…I’d recommend all of them. One of my goals (with no specific time frame) is to watch all the movies on the American Film Institute’s 100 Best list.

I’ve also done hangouts with high school friends, friends from church, and Cal friends. Last week, I spent a couple days at UCI with some high school buddies. I’ve done food runs with friends from church at places like Captain Crab, Look You Fan Dim, and Noodle Planet. I’ve also gone golfing with Jon, Jared, and Tim and played basketball with the two James(es) and Kent.

I visited my high school last Friday and chatted with some old teachers and friends. Shout-out to Chris, Wesley, Winnie, and the rest of the Berkeley ’14 kids…college will be awesome!

I’ve also spent some time with the family and helping around with errands. Last week, I went to the recycling center with five months’ worth of plastic and aluminum bottles and cans. Made $32, bought some Albertson’s cookies and boba. I think I filled six or seven trashcans’ worth of bottles.

Cleaning out the garage wasn’t very fun, but the sneezes were worth it because now, Baxter no longer has to be parked outside. I can’t believe my parents would just leave my car in the driveway this semester. Which brings me to my next topic: driving.

My car has been in non-operation status and without insurance for the past year. This is horrible, because I love driving my car and I don’t like asking for rides. Being carless over winter, spring, and summer break has been the worst – feeling trapped and stuck. I can’t wait until next spring, when my parents will finally let me bring my car up to Berkeley. It will be worth the wait.

I’ll be going to China in two days, on June 2. Here’s my travel plan for now: I’ll be flying to Shanghai, meet up with my grandpa, and check out the World Expo. After five days, I’ll be flying to my parents’ hometown to meet up with my relatives until June 12.

It will be hot, but I’m hoping that it’ll be a fun experience, plus I’ll have tons of awesome things to blog about, provided I find some good proxy servers around the Great Firewall of China. I’ll keep you guys posted on my travels.

I’ll be in SoCal for one more week after my trip to China. On June 18, I will be flying back to Berkeley to move into my new apartment and start summer school. I’m very excited because I’ll finally have work to do. I know it sounds weird, but I can’t function without work. It’s been a very relaxing few weeks, but I feel it’s time for me to do things.

Here’s to an exciting rest of summer. Hope you guys are having an awesome time as well!
