What’s Up | 03/03/10

It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about what’s up in my life. Last week was my chillest week at Cal this semester thus far. I couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing seven days. A large part of this was because I had no mandatory ABA events to attend. Of course, I still checked out a few on Monday and Tuesday.

Two Sundays ago, Jay, James, and I went apartment hunting. This is where the story about the homeless lady comes in. We were walking to the bus stop after our committee meeting, and suddenly, we see a lady on the ground, with a student trying to help her.

As we approached, the student asked us to help; the homeless lady was foaming at the mouth and throwing up, while lying on her back. I went over and we decided to prop her to her side. I caught the scent of alcohol.

I had no idea what else to do. After what seemed like an eternity, I finally heard the sirens. Looking back, the oddest thing was that I remained composed throughout the ordeal. I have no idea why. I was pretty sure that I was scared that she would die, but at the same time, I sort of prepared for the worst. Crazy stuff.

Okay, so the rest of my week went by with nothing else this drastic. Yay!

The apartments we checked out were on the west and north side of campus. They’re a bit further from campus, but they are much newer and nicer than the ones south of campus. Plus, they were located around a bunch of shops and restaurants. I liked the apartments, but we’ll see how things turn out.

On Wednesday, I played basketball at the RSF (fitness center) with my committee kids Jay and Kent. We played some pickup games. Eric and Ray from ABA also joined us. We played for two hours straight. I don’t remember the last time I spent so much time playing sports or having that much fun. It seems that I always forget how much I enjoy playing basketball. I’m looking at spending more time at the RSF.

On Thursday, I swam for half an hour at the Clark Kerr pool. Again, it felt good to be exercising again. I also read close to 200 pages that night and almost, ALMOST caught up on all my classes. That felt good, too.

Friday was pouring, probably one of the heavier rainstorms. I spent four hours at The Daily Cal in the afternoon. Our management changed over break, and I like the overhaul. Our new manager, Dante, introduced sales teams, sales reports, and actually provided incentives to improve on the job. Our sales meetings get a lot more done. We have two new sales reps, and I got to keep both of my sales districts.

I’ve also been going to Cal’s InterVarsity large groups a lot more than in the past. IV is a Christian fellowship group, and I usually go on Friday nights and hang out with some friends from IV afterward. We usually watch movies, play games, or eat after the meetings. This time, we stopped by Mickey D’s and then watched Forrest Gump.

Brian, Jacq, Daisy, and Josiah being awesome.

The weekend came and went. Things definitely picked up. I swam again on Saturday and spent the rest of the afternoon studying for my UGBA business module exam on Monday. At night, I went to Ici for ABA intercommittee bonding, and then to Barney’s Gourmet Hamburgers for Katie’s birthday celebration.

I stopped by again at twelve to join a birthday celebration…Ben and Jerry’s ice cream cake. At 1 am, I started filming for ABA’s meeting video. All the guys in Cabinet decided to make a music video of “Wedding Dress” by K-pop star TaeYang.

We spent hours learning the dance and then filming from multiple shots. It was so much fun, and I’m looking forward to the finished video for Third General Meeting. We didn’t finish until 6 am. Now that’s true dedication.

The music video set. It's going to be good.

I spent Sunday studying more for UGBA, and had a committee meeting at night. The test went very well…I’m very happy with the results.

So that’s been my chill week. I had so much fun, I actually got a lot more sleep, and I enjoyed doing the things I seldom have time to do.

Now, I’m in the midst of midterms. I’ll be looking forward to spring break and more good times to come.
